All the flower and plant extracts used in Balancing Blooms® essences have been handpicked. Harvested at different times of the year, the wild flowers are gathered from locations around the English, Welsh and European countryside. We only pick a small portion from any plant or colony to ensure that they will continue to reproduce year after year and we only make the essence if the weather, flowers and natural environment are as Bach directed. This may mean that as our sales increase we may not be able to source sufficient (or any) particular flower in any season (especially given the difficulty of finding days with continuous sunshine in England for the sun method below). Hence we may have to vary the flower combinations in a product in future.
The essences are prepared using a three-step system established by Edward Bach. The first step is to create a liquid ‘mother’ tincture, a process undertaken in two ways depending on the nature of the flower or plant.
The sun methodDelicate wild flower essences are extracted by steeping petals in spring water. The water is held in thin glass finger bowls – that concentrate the power of the sun’s rays – and placed as close to the mother plant as possible. This ideally takes place on a cloudless day meaning the petals can be left in direct sunlight for several hours until their energy has been absorbed and a change in the colour and/or viscosity of the water observed. |

The boiling methodTo create a tincture from more robust, woody plants, extracts are boiled in spring water for thirty minutes. The solution is then allowed to cool before being carefully filtered by hand. |
